Zapata wins shootout against Progreso
ZAPATA --- Despite falling behind 17-0, the Hawks rallied to beat the Red Ants 62-44 and clinch a playoff spot.
Progreso coach Elvis Hernandez was still proud of his team’s effort, which saw them try to keep pace with a high-scoring Zapata team.
“Our kids didn’t give up and kept on fighting until the end,” Hernandez said. “That’s what we expect from them. It’s hard, especially for the seniors.”
Hernandez acknowledged the difficulty of his team’s task Friday.
“Taking a trip of this magnitude I think puts a little more pressure on the kids,” Hernandez said. “I think overall we did good.
Progreso falls to 2-7 overall and 0-6 in District 32-3A. Zapata improves to 5-4 overall and 5-1 in district play.
