Mercedes sprinter shatters Valley record
Comments 0 | Recommend 0AUSTIN - Meet the Rio Grande Valley's new fastest man. His name is Alex Treviño and the Mercedes sprinter shattered a 54-year-old Rio Grande Valley record in the 200-meter dash Friday night, running a 20.86 at the UIL State Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Bobby Morrow held the previous best time of 20.98, which he ran in 1954 for the San Benito Greyhounds.
Treviño finished in third place with a fully automated time of 21.10. But with the conversion equation designated by the UIL, .24 is subtracted from the fully automated time less than 200 meters.
All Valley records are hand-held times.
Treviño came close to breaking the mark at the District 32-4A meet last month when he ran a 20.99. That same night he broke the record in the 100 with a 10.23.
