Valley View opens season with win over Progreso

PHARR --- Behind a strong gathering from the home crowd, the Valley View Tigers beat the Progreso Red Ants 28-21 in the home opener of the 2009 season.

Quarterback Teddy Trejo led the Tigers with his poise as he ran for two touchdowns. The Red Ants did not go down without a fight, as they met the Tigers touchdown to touchdown until a muffed punt deep in Tigers territory that put the game away for good in the dwindling minutes of the fourth quarter.

“Our line did a great job opening holes for Mitchell and Teddy,” Valley View coach Tracey Hamilton said. “We had some adversity out there with some early fumbles, but our kids stuck it out and we achieved a great victory tonight.”

It marked the second win for Valley View in the school's fourth season of playing varsity football.
