COLLEGE STATION — The La Villa Cardinals won their first four games at the state 7-on-7 tournament before losing 21-18 to Somerset in the second round of the Division II championship bracket. The Cardinals, who beat Godley 46-32 to start the day, came within four victories of a state title.

Hidalgo, which played in the Division II consolation bracket, made the quarterfinals before losing 38-6 to Burnet.

Both Edinburg High and PSJA Memorial played in Division I pool play. The Bobcats went 2-1 in their pool but didn’t qualify for the championship bracket and will face Collins in the consolation bracket. The Wolverines went 0-3 in their pool and open the consolation bracket with a game against Stony Point. If both Edinburg and Memorial win, they will face each other in the second round.
