Valley players honored by THSBCA
The Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association on Friday revealed its 2010 all-state teams. And the Rio Grande Valley was well represented, with players from Class 5A, Class 4A and Class 3A honored.
McAllen High, which ascended to the No. 1 spot in the state, had two players make the team. Alexis Garza, who was drafted by the Houston Astros and also has major collegiate options, was named a second-team outfielder. Teammate Alvaro Moreno was named a first-team third baseman, though he spent much of the season at shortstop.
Garza and Moreno weren’t the only area 5A players honored. Harlingen South second baseman Zach Flores made the second team, while PSJA High catcher Rolando Garcia and Sharyland pitcher Baylr Bickerton were both named to the third team.
In 4A, Mission Veterans Memorial had two players honored. First baseman Rick Alanis earned a first-team nod while teammate Roy Falcon was named a second-team outfielder.
Hidalgo second baseman John Pena was named to the third-team.
