S.A. Taft pulls away from Edinburg High to win Game 2
LAREDO — San Antonio Taft broke open a tight Game 2 against Edinburg High with a five-run sixth inning to clinch their best-of-3 series with a 7-0 victory Saturday at Laredo’s Student Activities Center. Taft won Game 1 on Friday, 5-2, in Laredo and won the series.
Taft (25-9) will play Austin Bowie in the regional final later this week.
The Lady Bobcats (29-6) squeezed out five hits.
“We had runners on base, but we couldn’t the big hit when we needed it,” Edinburg High coach Jesse Banda said.
Taft pitcher Vianna Gutierrez did a masterful job of keeping the Lady Bobcats off-balance, Banda said.
“It was an outstanding year,” Banda said. “One of our girls told me that we were going to make it to the fourth round of the playoffs and we did. Our program reached new heights this year and we expect good things in the future.”
