Bermea misses 110 hurdles finals, ready for 400 hurdles today
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Harlingen hurdler Randy Bermea finished in second place in his heat with a time of 14.28 in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles at the 2011 New Balance Nationals on Friday but failed to qualify for the finals.
Bermea got off to a good start but knocked down some hurdles near the end of the race. Bermea last raced at the UIL State Track and Field Championships on May 14.
“God has a plan for all of us,” Bermea said. “And winning wasn’t in his plans for me.”
Bermea isn’t done at the national meet just yet. The Harlingen senior-to-be will race in the 400-meter hurdles today.
“This was just a stepping stone to help me get where I need to be,” Bermea said. “I’m going to learn and build from this experience. You can’t dwell on these things. I have another race and I’ll give it my best tomorrow (Saturday).”
