WESLACO - Weslaco East forward Jorge Marquez is a man of his word.

"Earlier today, Jorge (Marquez) came into my office and said that he was going to do whatever it takes to score two goals in (Thursday night's) game and he lived up to his word," East All-Stars and Weslaco East coach David Castro said.

Marquez put on a show in Thursday night's East-West All-Star Senior Showdown at Bobby Lackey Stadium as he scored two of the four goals and showcased his moves while leading the East to a 4-2 victory over the West.

"It feels great to be able not only to score two goals, but to do it in front of all of my friends and in my hometown," Marquez said. "This is definitely the way I wanted to go out in my last game as a senior."

The West squad took an early 1-0 lead as McAllen Rowe's Ramon Rodriguez scored with 35:33 left in the first half.

Marquez tied it at 1-all when he took a long pass and then dribbled the ball into the goal with 20:32 left in the first half. The Weslaco East star switched his shot from the near post, faking the West goalie and putting it inside the far post.

The East squad went up 2-1 when Marquez scored his second goal of the night from 30 yards out with 39:09 left in the second half. 
Raymondville's Victor Sanchez put the East squad up 3-1 when he scored on a bender inside the far post with 38:39 left in the second half.

The East increased its lead to 4-1 as it scored on a rebound with 10:15 left.

Valley View's Omar Mena cut the lead in half when he scored on a free kick with 5:59 left.

"It was truly an honor to be associated with these excellent athletes," Castro said. "I told the kids before the game that I was honored to be their head coach for this game. These players have worked hard throughout their high school careers and were able to showcase their talents one more time."

In the girls matchup, Sharyland's Anna Diaz-Miron scored the only goal in the West's 1-0 win over the East. Diaz-Miron scored with 20:02 left in the first half.
