Eagles bounced from Class 4A playoffs
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LAREDO - Uvalde defeated Mission High 2-0 on Friday night, knocking the Eagles out of the Class 4A playoffs.
Mission, which finished the season 18-8 and as the District 32-4A champions, picked the wrong night for its bats to go quiet as Steven Gonzalez (9-3) allowed two earned runs.
"It was a pitching duel," Eagles coach Rick Lozano said. "We had five hits, and they had only three or four. But Steven walked about four guys, and that is what hurt us."
Mark Gonzales was the only Eagles player to have more than one hit, going 2-for-3 on the night.
For the Coyotes, Chris Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with one RBI and Nathan Maldonado was 1-for-2 and brought in one run.
Uvalde moves to a regional quarterfinal vs. Alice, which beat Corpus Christi Moody on Thursday.
