ROUND ROCK - Kale Kiser doubled to drive in the tying run and later scored in the sixth inning to help Plano West win its first state title with a 10-8 win over Southlake Carroll in the Class 5A championship Saturday.

West reliever Drew Johnson was named tournament MVP after allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and retiring three straight in the seventh inning to end the game.

Harrison Holmes drove in two runs for West (40-2), which recaptured the lead after Carroll (23-19) scored six runs in the fourth to erase a 5-1 deficit. Ronnie Mitchell went 3-for-4 and scored three runs for the Dragons.

Carroll's last chance in the seventh happened without head coach Larry Hughes, who was ejected after arguing a dropped third strike in the top of the inning. The umpire said the ball hit the ground but Hughes insisted his catcher caught it.

Kiser and Holmes led West with two hits apiece.

Bosqueville 10, Flatonia 3: At Round Rock, Hunter Perry and Cody Feight each homered and had three RBIs to lead Bosqueville past Flatonia in the Class 1A state championship game Saturday.

Bosqueville (21-6-1) jumped out to an 8-0 lead and cruised after Flatonia (25-6-1) scored all three of its runs in the third inning.

Perry and Feight also had two hits each and scored twice, and David Johnson went 3-for-4 to back the four-hit pitching of Aaron Randolph (7-1), who struck out six in a seven-inning complete game.

Flatonia starter Cote Schacherl (10-2) gave up six runs - five earned - on five hits in two-plus innings.

Sean Masek drove in two runs for Flatonia.
