3-run 7th carries CC Carroll
ROUND ROCK — Oshea Dumes’ RBI single capped a three-run rally in the seventh inning that carried Corpus Christi Carroll past Fort Bend Clements 4-3 in the Class 5A baseball semifinals Friday night.
Dumes drove in Adam Hinojosa on a two-out hit after Hinojosa tied the score with a two-run double. The rally sent Carroll (36-7) into Saturday’s championship game against Klein.
Brian Hethcoat scattered seven hits through the first six innings for Clements (33-8), holding Carroll to one run. But he allowed consecutive singles to start the seventh and was pulled after Hinojosa’s tying double, eventually taking the loss.
John Stanford went 2 for 2 and homered to give Clements a 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh.
Klein 4, Plano West 3: At Round Rock, Hank Morgan’s bases-loaded single with two outs in the seventh inning gave Klein a victory against Plano West in the Class 5A baseball semifinals Friday.
Rob Tasin walked to start the winning rally, and a single and an error loaded the bases with one out. After a strikeout, Morgan singled to left field to score pinch-runner Mitch Hebert.
Klein (33-6) will play either Corpus Christi Carroll in Saturday’s championship game.
Mitchell Nau had three hits, including a two-run double that helped put Klein up 3-0 in the third inning.
Plano West (25-13-2) pulled even in the sixth on RBI singles from Clint Rupp, Andrew Blum and Toran Tillitson.
Tasin pitched an inning of scoreless relief for the win.
