Santa Rosa has its way with La Villa in 22nd Sugar Bowl
LA VILLA — Turnovers seemed to be the Achilles heel for the La Villa Cardinals as the Santa Rosa Warriors won the Sugar Bowl 32-14 on Friday night at Cardinal Stadium.
The Cardinals turned the ball over four times, with two of the turnovers leading to nice field position for the Warriors as they converted them into easy points.
Behind a steady backfield Santa Rosa rushed for a little over 200 yards. Rick Cavazos led the way for the Warriors as he rushed for 90 yards on 21 carries with 3 touchdowns. Quarterback Omar Ramirez complemented Cavazos as he added a touchdown on the ground and in the air. Ramirez finished the game 5-of-12 passing for 136 yards and an interception, as well as adding close to 100 rushing yards on 18 carries.
With a strong defense the Warriors stopped the Cardinals’ aerial attack as they recorded five sacks and held La Villa to under 60 yards rushing. La Villa tried to spread its receivers down the field, but with constant pressure the Cardinals quarterback showed some light on some drives, but the turnovers were too much to overcome.
