McHi, Los Fresnos play to tie
McALLEN — The McAllen High Lady Bulldogs played hard, passed well and put themselves in position to score.
The problem for the Lady Bulldogs was that the Los Fresnos Lady Falcons did the very same thing on Saturday afternoon at the McHi Showcase. The result was a 0-0 tie.
But in this non-district tourney, what the teams gained was experience while they get ready for district next week. Harlingen High tied Corpus Christi Carroll 1-1.
Los Fresnos played without six of its starters and McHi played without a few of theirs and had a few others banged up. Still, those that took the pitch were game, they just couldn’t put it into the net.
“There were some golden opportunities we missed today,” McHi coach Pat Arney said. “You could also say we were creating opportunities, but we missed on those.”
McHI had at least eight shots on goal and were precariously close to scoring a few times. Los Fresnos pushed the ball the entire game and took half a dozen shots on goal.
Los Fresnos coach Mario Davila said he substituted liberally because of injuries and playing time.
“I wanted to give these players some experience because of district. I will need them,” he said.
Los Fresnos’ non-district record is 3-4-6. McHi enters district 5-4-2 overall.
