South tennis loses in regional final
The Harlingen South Hawks fell to New Braunfels in the final of the Region IV-5A Team Tennis Tournament on Saturday at the HEB Tennis Center in Corpus Christi.
South lost 10-1, and for the second straight year, New Braunfels won the region and moves on to state.
"They’re pretty tough," South coach Noe Stillman said of New Braunfels. "They’ll definitely have a good chance to win state."
The Hawks beat San Antonio Reagan 10-8 in the semifinal to get to the final, but New Braunfels proved to be too much.
Stillman, though, was pleased with his team holding its seed and getting to the final.
"Our kids did really good," he said. "They fought really hard, they were competitive in a lot of matches."
Tournament play begins in a few weeks, then it really picks up in January when the individual season begins.
