Valley players receive all-state recognition

Four Rio Grande Valley baseball players were named to the 2011 THSBCA all-state team as selected by Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association.

In Class 5A, Harlingen South second baseman Zach Flores received first-team honors. Rio Grande City’s Leonel Zamarripa, meanwhile, is the Class 4A first-team second baseman.

RGC catcher Phillip Guzman was selected to the second team, while Mission Veterans Memorial pitcher Julian Fernandez received third-team honors on the Class 4A all-state team.
