AUSTIN --- The UIL has announced the five Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup winners for the 2008-09 season.

With three state championships during the 2008-09 season, Conroe The Woodlands has captured its third Class 5A Lone Star Cup in four years. The Woodlands won state titles in boys and girls cross country and girls swimming and diving as well as made lengthy playoff runs in boys and girls soccer.

Friendswood made a late season run to win its first-ever Lone Star Cup, in Class 4A, by two points over Waco Midway. Friendswood's victories in the State Academic Meet and One-Act Play propelled them into the top spot.

Four state championships and a second-place finish in girls basketball helped Argyle High School win its second Lone Star Cup, first in class 3A. Argyle won the Class 2A Lone Star Cup in 2006. Hidalgo finished third in the Class 3A voting, finishing with 54 points --- 40 points behind Argyle. The Pirates won the boys state soccer title along with make the Final Four in girls basketball.

Class 2A Brock High School won its first-ever Lone Star Cup on the heels of state championship wins in girls basketball and softball. A lengthy run in the baseball playoffs gave Brock enough points to overtake last year's winner Salado.

Lindsay High School finished the year strong to win its fourth-straight Class A Lone Star Cup. After an impressive showing at the State Academic Meet and a long playoff run in softball, Lindsay now has the second-longest streak and longest active streak of Lone Star Cup victories.

The Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup recognizes five high schools (one in each of the five UIL classifications) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned athletic and academic championships. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included for contention for the Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup.

The Texas Dodge Dealers are a proud UIL Corporate Partner as the official vehicle of the Texas high school championships. The Texas Dodge Dealers Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
