Team of the Week: Sharyland boys, McAllen Rowe girls
The Sharyland Rattlers and the McAllen Rowe Lady Warriors are this week’s recipients of the Team of the Week presented by RGVSports.com, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Academy Sports & Outdoors.
For their efforts, the Rattlers and Lady Warriors will receive passes to the Thursday, Feb. 16 NBA Development League game between the Vipers and the Canton Charge at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo courtesy of Academy Sports & Outdoors. In addition, the Rattlers and Lady Raiders will be recognized on the court before the Vipers and Charge tip off.
Sharyland (22-10 overall, 10-1 District 30-5A) pushed its winning streak to 10 with a pair of victories last week, including a riveting 54-52 win Friday night at McAllen Memorial. Quino Pistokache led the Rattlers’ fourth quarter surge by scoring his team’s final 10 points.
Quino Pistokache finished with 13 points, while his younger brother Jesse Pistokache netted a game-high 17. The Rattlers host Mission High tonight.
The McAllen Rowe Lady Warriors, meanwhile, won the first district championship in program history last week. Rowe (21-11, 12-1) clinched the outright District 30-5A title with a 53-27 win at La Joya Palmview on Friday.
Ciaira Briseño leads the Lady Warriors with 12.6 points per game. The school will hold a pep rally to honor veteran coach Raul Vega’s district championship winning squad at 5 p.m. today at the Rowe gym.
The RGVSports.com All-Valley Showcase, presented by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, will take place April 7 at State Farm Arena. The Showcase is a high school all-star game for boys and girls featuring the RGV’s best players regardless of classification.
