Los Fresnos to meet North at Harlingen Baseball Bash
HARLINGEN — The Los Fresnos Falcons will attempt to win their second straight tournament championship today as they advanced to the title game of the Harlingen Baseball Bash.
The Falcons, who beat San Benito in the Mercedes Knights of Columbus finals last Saturday, take on PSJA North in the finals today at 12:30 p.m. at Harlingen Field.
Meanwhile, it will be an all-Harlingen third-place final as Harlingen High takes on Harlingen South at 10 a.m., also at Harlingen Field.
Los Fresnos (10-3) went 3-1 in their pool, beating Harlingen South, Valley View and Economedes along the way. The Falcons’ only loss came against Donna on Thursday.
As for PSJA North (9-5), the Raiders also went 3-1 in their pool, beating La Feria, San Benito and Rio Hondo. The Raiders’ only loss came against Harlingen on Friday night, 6-2.
Last week the Raiders finished in second place at the PSJA ISD Mike Rodriguez tournament, losing to PSJA High in the finals, 4-1.
In the third-place game, Harlingen (12-3), which in addition to PSJA North, also beat Rio Hondo and Weslaco East in their pool. The Cards opened the tournament with a 5-3 loss to San Benito on Thursday.
The Hawks (7-8), meanwhile, opened play with a loss to Los Fresnos but then won three straight against Economedes, Valley View and Donna.
