St. Joseph cross country struggles at state
WACO - The St. Joseph Academy girls finished ninth and the boys were 10th at the TAPPS cross country state meet Saturday at Baylor University. SJA coach Meme Garza said the team had been hoping for a better showing, but it just didn't happen.
"It was a little disappointing, yes, but you just have to move forward," he said. "We had a great season this year and we're looking forward to coming back stronger next season."
Natalia de la Garza and Ninti Villarreal, SJA's top two runners for the girls, were unable to finish the race, apparently for health reasons, Meme Garza said.
For the SJA girls, the finishers were: Baldina Hernandez, 35th (13 minutes, 35 seconds); Alyssa Massey, 53rd (14:00); Isa Gomez, 55th (14:06); Sarah Dunn, 73rd (14:42); and Gigi Ricoy, 76th (14:51).
For the SJA boys, the finishers were: Alan Polanco, 40th (18:07); Patricio Vallejo, 54th (18:40); Andres Garza-Moreno, 55th (18:42); David Castillo, 57th (18:44); Erick Hernandez, 75th (19:41); Chacho Hernandez, 77th (19:53); and Michael Schlater, 96th (20:47).
