Brownsville Hanna's Robert Moreno (5-foot-6, 165 pounds) concluded his basketball career at McMurry University and was named to the 2009 American Southwest Conference West Division's second-team. Known as one of the best defensive guards in the ASC, he led the conference in assists by a landslide as he finished with 182 for the year. Moreno finished with a league-high 7.3 assists per game, was second in the conference in assists-to-turnover ratio (he averaged 2.0 assists for every turnover), was second in the conference in steals per game (2.4) and was 10th in the conference in minutes played per game (31.0).

Jaret Von Rosenberg (6-2, 185) became the 22nd player in Hartford University school history to amass 1,000 career points. The Sharyland High alum scored a game-high 21 points in the Hawks' 65-56 America East Conference victory against the University of Maine. Von Rosenberg was named all-conference third-team. He played three seasons at Hartford after transferring from Collin County.

In his first season at Piedmont College, J.C. Herebia (6-6, forward) was named to the Great South Athletic all-conference team. A graduate of PSJA North, he averaged 17.8 points and 6.3 rebounds as a junior. Herebia, a transfer from Texas Lutheran, reached double figure point totals in 22 of 25 games played and eclipsed the 20 point mark on 10 occasions. He posted a career high 28 points in the Lion's 98-87 win over rival Emory University.

Harlingen South's Steven Garcia completed his freshman season at Coastal Bend College in Beeville, a Division II junior college basketball program. Garcia led the team in scoring three times this season, including connecting on five 3-pointers in each contest. Coastal Bend will become a Division I JUCO next season.

Softball

Cassandra Hernandez (5-4, pitcher) from Harlingen South is currently playing for Texas A&M-Kingsville. A transfer from El Paso Community College, Hernandez is 1-0 with a 3.59 ERA in one start for the Lady Javelinas.

Track & Field

Louie Tijerina (5-11, freshman) is on the roster at TCU. A former athlete at St. Joseph, Tijerina competed in cross country for the Horned Frogs and ran indoor track. He will perform in the outdoor season this spring.

Volleyball

McAllen Rowe grad Kristina Hernandez, in her first season as coach at Hofstra University located in Hempstead, N.Y., was named by the American Volleyball Coaches Association to its inaugural Thirty Under 30 Award list. This award was created to honor thirty of the up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game. Before taking the position at Hofsta, Hernandez coached four years at Loyola (MD.).
