Edinburg High senior defensive back Sal Martinez was named Dave Campbell’s Texas High School Football’s best DB for the 2011 season. Martinez was also on the publication’s first-team defense.
Martinez was also named Valley Freedom Newspapers’ co-All Purpose Player of the Year. He shared the honor with Harlingen High’s Randy Bermea.
Weslaco East’s Christian Garcia also made it to the publication’s first team as an offensive lineman.
Weslaco High’s Jose Montiel (DL), Harlingen High’s Nathan Prado (LB) and Port Isabel’s Aureliano Silva (OL) were second-team choices.
