Rain sends baseball, softball teams running for cover

Rain and baseball simply don’t mix as the wet stuff Tuesday postponed nearly the entire Valley schedule.

In District 30-5A, all games, including the big McAllen at Sharyland contest, were postponed until 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

In District 31-5A, all games were moved to Wednesday. PSJA North-PSJA Memorial and Harlingen South-Economedes will play at 7 p.m.; Edinburg-Harlingen is set for 1 p.m. while Edinburg North-PSJA is at 3 p.m.

District 32-5A’s games were also all postponed. With the exception of Los Fresnos-Rivera, which is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, all other games were moved to Wednesday. Pace-Weslaco is at 1 p.m., Lopez-San Benito is at 4 p.m. and Hanna-Porter is tentatively set for 7 p.m.

District 32-4A had three games postponed until Wednesday and Thursday. Roma-Weslaco East along with Mission Veterans-Mercedes got moved to Wednesday at 2 and 7 p.m., respectively. Meanwhile, Mission-La Joya Juarez-Lincoln was postponed until noon Thursday. Edcouch-Elsa-Valley View was not postponed.

Finally, in District 32-3A, Lyford-Port Isabel was moved to noon on Wednesday while La Feria-Zapata is later in the day at 7 p.m.

The wet weather also affected the Valley’s softball schedule, although not as much as baseball.

One game that was moved was the highly anticipated Porter at San Benito game. It’s now set for 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Other 32-5A games that were postponed include Lopez-Los Fresnos and Weslaco-Hanna. Both were moved to 7 p.m. Thursday.

In District 31-5A, PSJA-Edinburg was pushed to 3 p.m. Wednesday, and in 32-4A Mercedes-Edcouch-Elsa was postponed until 7 p.m., also Wednesday.
