Lady Bobcats fall in 4 games
Comments 0 | Recommend 0One of the best seasons in Edinburg High's history came to end Tuesday in Corpus Christi.
San Antonio Southwest defeated Edinburg High 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 25-17 to advance to the regional semifinals Saturday at St. Mary's University in San Antonio where it will meet state-ranked San Antonio Reagan.
The Lady Bobcats (21-10) were hoping to advance to the regional tournament for the first time in school history after a strong two matches to start the playoffs, one of which was an upset of the Rio Grande Valley's top-ranked team, McAllen High.
Edinburg High had lost the last two matches of the regular season to squander a one-game lead atop the District 31-5A standings to Harlingen South.
"As you can see, we didn't start off very well during the tournaments," Lady Bobcats coach Deanna Dominguez said. "We started off slow but we picked it up and then we lost those last two. Then, we played well in the playoffs, thus far. It was kind of a rollercoaster."
During the first two games the teams played even but the Lady Dragons pulled away during the last two. The Lady Dragons' road included wins over McAllen Memorial (bi-district), Los Fresnos (area round) and Edinburg (regional quarterfinal)."
"I think the loss hurts because we could have beaten them," Lady Bobcats coach Deanna Dominguez said. "We were two equally matched teams."
Lisa Lancaster and Becka Rodriguez recorded 12 kills each and Jenetta Sanchez had 27 assists.
